Welcome to Ellis Surname DNA Project web site.
The purpose of the Ellis Surname DNA project is to identify the many Ellis lines around the world using Y-dna, and to help the participants connect with cousins. There are many variations in the name: Alce, Ales, Alis, Allace, Alles, Alless, Allis, Alliss, Eles, Elice, Elis, Elles, Ellice, Ellis, Els, Elys . . . all are welcome to join. All participants of the National Geographic Genographic DNA Project who are descended on a direct paternal Ellis line are welcome to join.
The project uses FamilyTreeDNA as our testing lab. While it is possible to join with results from other companies, it makes the interpretation of results much more difficult. The minimun number of markers neccessary for this project is 37.
The project now has over 260 members. From the results so far it is obvious that there are many different Ellis families that are not connected within a genealogical time frame.
Some project members have authorized me to post their email addresses. A list of member kits and the associated email addresses is here.
A mailing list for our project has been set up at Rootsweb. I will be using this list to send updates, and interesting developments. I am hoping that members will use the mailing list to discuss their lines and look for common ancestors. I am hoping it will be a tool to encourage new membership with non members. This is your mailing list, have fun with it. To subscribe click here.
